  Movie Releases for 7/14/06
Little Man (PG-13); Wide release
A man, who is anxious to be a father, mistakes an extremely short-statured, baby-faced criminal on-the-lam, to be his newly adopted son.

Starring: Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Kerry Washington, Tracy Morgan, John Witherspoon

You, Me and Dupree (PG-13); Wide release
Carl and Molly have found the one unfortunate hitch in their perfectly constructed newly wedded world: Dupree. A slacker with the soul of a poet, Dupree just can't seem to catch a break from The Man. When he takes a week off to best-man Carl and Molly's marriage in Hawaii, Dupree gets the unceremonious heave-ho from his boss. Now jobless, car-less and evicted from the cot at his favorite watering hole, he just needs to crash with the Petersons for a couple of days; okay, maybe a month or so. At first, Carl is psyched to have the couch guest while Molly bears the brunt of Dupree's well-meaning antics. But, as Carl becomes buried in his grown-up job of land development and headaches, he finds it hard to juggle Dupree and his newlywed responsibilities. As time passes, his and Molly's houseguest uses his ample spare time to become a great companion to her, underscoring Carl's new workaholic tendencies. Even Molly's dad begins to fall for Dupree's carefree wisdom, frustrating Carl to no end. Soon, everyone (but Carl) begins to root for Dupree to stick around. But just as the impish buddy starts becoming a fixture in the Petersons' home, three becomes not just a crowd, but a full-blown comic catastrophe. As the couple realizes their ideas of a white-picket fence marriage are morphing, their loveable pal serves as a daily reminder that finding your inner Dupree might just be one of life's hidden secrets.

Starring: Matt Dillon, Kate Hudson, Owen Wilson, Michael Douglas, Amanda Detmer

Edmond (R); Limited release
An encounter with the fortuneteller has caused bland businessman Edmond to confront the emptiness of his life and marriage. His wife complains that the maid broke a lamp, and this seems to be the last straw, prompting him to flee the safe boredom of his home for the vortex of the dark city streets. The strangely liberating act of leaving his wife tilts Edmond into a free-fall that he mistakes for freedom. Stumbling into a local bar, Edmond meets a man who convinces him that sex is what he needs to solve his problems. To Edmond's surprise, hookers are expensive, the pimp he encounters is violent, and the guy running a three-card monte game is a cheat. Still, he wanders the streets, encountering big-city night crawlers, until finally he is robbed and beaten and left bewildered. 'We live in a fog, we live in a dream,' he declares. Screeching racial hatred, Edmond finds a kind of peace in living in that moment. Feeling freed, he goes home with a waitress, Glenna, but their riotous sex play leads to some very deep conversation. When the honesty topic is explored, Glenna refuses to engage, causing Edmond intense turmoil. He asks her, begs her, to rely on honesty, but instead pandemonium ensues. As Edmond spirals on towards personal disintegration, his racism and homophobia emerges -- and he freely expresses it. 'Every fear hides a wish,' he discovers.

Starring: William H. Macy, Julia Stiles, Joe Mantegna, Rebecca Pidgeon, Ling Bai

Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man (PG-13); Limited release
Songwriter. Poet. Counter-culture icon. Consummate ladies' man. Since bursting onto the scene in 1967, Leonard Cohen has inspired generations with his unique personality and haunting music, becoming one of the most original and enduring artists to emerge from the 1960s. In January, 2005, director Lian Lunson traveled to Sydney to film the historic "Came So Far For Beauty" show, a tribute to Leonard Cohen at the Sydney Opera House organized by famed music producer Hal Willner, which featured live performances from this event by Nick Cave, Rufus Wainwright, Kate & Anna McGarrigle, Martha Wainwright, Beth Orton, Linda Thompson, Teddy Thompson, Jarvis Cocker, The Handsome Family, Julie Christensen and Perla Battala, as well as a special performance of "Tower of Song" by Cohen and U2. In a series of candid interviews, Cohen himself reveals his trademark wry humor and soulful intensity, using his own artwork, poetry and personal collection of photographs to reflect upon his colorful past and his creative process.

Starring: Beth Orton, Bono, Nick Cave, Julie Christensen, Adam Clayton

Once in a Lifetime: The Extraordinary Story of the New York Cosmos (PG-13); Limited release
"Once in a Lifetime" is the story of the American Dream colliding with the Global Game. It's the story of one man's obsession to spark a Soccer revolution in a country that had never even heard of the sport. But Steve Ross could not transform the North American Soccer League into an American Major League without the most powerful entertainment tool of persuasion: television. When the game failed to gain a foothold on network TV, the media titan's dream, and his team, began to implode. And as quickly as it had exploded onto the scene, the Cosmos, and the league, folded in a New York minute. Soccer in America disappeared overnight. But the Cosmos did leave a legacy, not only were they the prototype for today's super clubs, likewise Pele's contract was the template for those of the Beckhams and Ronaldinhos. Perhaps most significantly of all, both the US men and women's soccer teams, players who grew up in the shadow of the Cosmos brilliant light, now rise through the World rankings, and the youth of America come out in their millions every weekend to play the world's sport. And with several new stadiums under construction across the country, the rapidly growing MLS is poised to achieve the Cosmos promise of soccer as a celebrated American sport.

Starring: Pele, Franz Beckenbauer, Johan Cruff, Carlos Alberto, Matt Dillon

Randomness...the true order of the world.

Travel the world in one day, rest your legs beside the sea; hope the people that you meet, will friends forever be. Okay..so that was a little random. But so is life. You never know when all the luck is going your way, or if the rabbit's foot is going to turn bad. I haven't been around the world, except in my reading and movies. I stay outta politics, prefering to be neutral territory. Friends who are in trouble come to see me; when I get into trouble, I stay retreated into secrecy. But I make time for all of it. I believe strongly in being yourself...that is the only way that you will truly be happy. Do what is right for you, you can only live life once. Don't get lost in the depths of my mind....
