  This week's movie releases...

"I've learned to trust myself, to listen to truth, to not be afraid of it and to not try and hide it."

Pulse (PG-13); Wide release
A website which at first appears to be merely a scary hoax with an irresistible marketing ploy turns out to be run by a sinister and deadly force. As more and more people tap into the site's frightening images of the dead, the supernatural force controlling it begins to dominate the lives of the people that log on.

Starring: Kristen Bell, Christina Milian, Ian Somerhalder, Rick Gonzalez, Samm Levine

Step Up (PG-13); Wide release
Everyone deserves a chance to follow their dreams, but some people only get one shot. Tyler Gage is a rebel from the wrong side of Baltimore's tracks--and the only thing that stands between him and an unfulfilled life are his dreams of one day making it out of there. Nora is a privileged ballet dancer attending Baltimore's ultra-elite Maryland School of the Arts--and the only thing standing in the way of her obviously brilliant future is finding a great dance partner for her senior showcase. When trouble with the law lands Tyler with a community service gig at Maryland School of the Arts, he arrives as an angry outsider, until his skills as a gifted street dancer draw Nora's attention. Now, as sparks fly between them, both on and off stage, Tyler realizes he has just one performance to prove that he can step up to a life far larger than he ever imagined.

Starring: Jenna Dewan, Channing Tatum, Mario, Drew Sidora, Rachel Griffiths

World Trade Center (PG-13); Wide release; opens 8/9
September 11, 2001 was an unusually warm day in New York. Will Jimeno, an officer with the Port Authority Police Department, was tempted to take a personal day to enjoy his hobby of bow hunting, but ultimately decided that he would go to work. Sergeant John McLoughlin, a respected veteran of the PAPD, had been up for hours--a requirement of his daily, 1 ½ hour trek to the city. They and their colleagues made their way to midtown Manhattan, just like they did any other day. Only this wasn't any other day. A team of PAPD first responders drove from mid-town Manhattan to the World Trade Center. Five men, including McLoughlin and Jimeno, went into the buildings and were trapped when the towers collapsed. Miraculously, McLoughlin and Jimeno survived, but were buried and pinned beneath slabs of concrete and twisted metal, 20 feet below the rubble field. Though they couldn't see each other, each could hear that the other had survived, and for the next 12 hours, McLoughlin and Jimeno kept each other alive--talking about their families, their lives on the force, their hopes, their disappointments.

Starring: Nicolas Cage, Michael Pena, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Maria Bello, Gary Stretch

Zoom (PG); Wide release
An unpopular high school girl is whisked away by her mysterious father to a school for superheroes where she discovers her talents.

Starring: Tim Allen, Courteney Cox-Arquette, Chevy Chase, Kevin Zegers, Aaron Abrams

Conversations With Other Women (R); Limited release
When a man and a woman flirt with each other at a wedding reception, the sexual tension between them seems spontaneous. But as the conversation deepens, their previous life together is gradually revealed. As they break from the party to a hotel room, the flirtation turns into a night filled with passion and remorse.

Starring: Helena Bonham Carter, Aaron Eckhart, Nora Zehetner, Erik Eidem, Olivia Wilde

Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (Never Say Goodbye) (NR); Limited release
The film focuses on the romance between Jai, a neurotic accountant working for Sharma Limited in Delhi, and Shalini, the daughter of Sharma Limited's rich owner. Both Jai and Shalini are already married to different partners. They are both so engrossed in life's day to day domestic rituals that they are convinced that this is their happiness. But each still yearns for something deeper and more meaningful. So when these two people meet, that's exactly what they find in each other. From a relationship starting off on pleasant terms, these two characters slowly begin to develop a liking for each other. When their feelings come to the fore, what results is a collision of lives and emotions, affecting everyone involved and changing them forever.

Randomness...the true order of the world.

"A prudent man will think more important what fate has conceded to him, than what it has denied." ~ Baltasar Gracian (1601-1658) Spanish Philosopher

Travel the world in one day, rest your legs beside the sea; hope the people that you meet, will friends forever be. Okay..so that was a little random. But so is life. You never know when all the luck is going your way, or if the rabbit's foot is going to turn bad. I haven't been around the world, except in my reading and movies. I stay outta politics, prefering to be neutral territory. Friends who are in trouble come to see me; when I get into trouble, I stay retreated into secrecy. But I make time for all of it. I believe strongly in being yourself...that is the only way that you will truly be happy. Do what is right for you, you can only live life once. Don't get lost in the depths of my mind....
