  What's Your Southern Sign?
OKRA (Dec 22 - Jan 20) Are tough on the outside but tender on the inside. Okras have tremendous influence. Older Okra can look back over his life and see the seeds of his influence everywhere. You can do something good each day if you try.

CHITLIN (Jan 21 - Feb 19) Chitlins come from humble backgrounds. A Chitlin, however, will make something of himself if he is motivated and has lots of seasoning. In dealing with Chitlins, be careful they may surprise you. They can erupt like Mt. Vesuvius. Chitlins are best with Catfish and Okra.

BOLL WEEVIL (Feb 20 - March 20) You have an overwhelming curiosity. You're unsatisfied with the surface of things and you feel the need to bore deep into the interior of everything. Needless to say, you are very intense and driven as if you had some inner hunger. You love to stay busy and tend to work too much. Nobody in their right mind is going to marry you, so don't worry about it.

MOON PIE (March 21 - April 20) You're the type that spends a lot of time on the front porch. A cinch to recognize the physical appearance of Moon Pies. Big and round are the key words here. You should marry anybody who you can get remotely interested in the idea. It's not going to be easy. You always have a big smile and are happy. This might be the year to think about aerobics. Maybe not.

POSSUM (April 21 - May 21) When confronted with life's difficulties, possums have a marked tendency to withdraw and develop a "don't bother me about it" attitude. Sometimes you become so withdrawn, people actually think you're dead. This strategy is probably not psychologically healthy but seems to work for you. You are a rare breed. Most folks love to watch you work and play. You are a night person and mind your own business.

CRAWFISH (May 22 - June 21) Crawfish is a water sign. If you work in an office, you're hanging around the water cooler. Crawfish prefer the beach to the mountains, the pool to the golf course, and the bathtub to the living room. You tend not to be particularly attractive physically, but you have very, very good hands.

COLLARDS (June 22 - July 23) Collards have a genius for communication. They love to get in the melting pot of life and share their essence with the essence of those around them. Collards make good social workers, psychologists, and baseball managers. As far as your personal life goes, if you are a Collard, stay away from Crawfish. It just won't work. Save yourself a lot of heartache.

CATFISH (July 24 - Aug 23) Catfish are traditionalists in matters of the heart, although one's whiskers may cause problems for loved ones. You Catfish are never easy people to understand. You run fast. You work and play hard. Even though you prefer the muddy bottoms to the clear surface of life, you are liked by most. Above all else, Catfish should stay away from Moon Pies.

GRITS (Aug 24 - Sept 23) Your highest aim is to be with others like yourself. You like to huddle together with a big crowd of other Grits. You love to travel, so maybe you should think about joining a club... Where do you like to go? Anywhere they have cheese, gravy, bacon, butter, or eggs and a good time. If you can go somewhere where they have all these things that serves you well. You are pure in heart.

BOILED PEANUTS (Sept 24 - Oct 23) You have a passionate desire to help your fellow man. Unfortunately, those who know you best ~ your friends and loved ones ~ may find that your personality is much too salty, and their criticism will affect you deeply because you are really much softer than you appear. You should go right ahead and marry anybody you want to because in a certain way, yours is a charmed life. On the road of life, you can be sure that people will always pull over and stop for you.

BUTTER BEAN (Oct 24 - Nov 22) Always invite a Butter Bean to a party because Butter Beans get along well with everybody. You, as a Butter Bean, should be proud. You've grown on the vine of life, and you feel at home no matter what the setting. You can sit next to anybody. However, you, also, shouldn't have anything to do with Moon Pies.

ARMADILLO (Nov 23 - Dec 21) You have a tendency to develop a tough exterior, but you are actually quite gentle and kind inside. A good evening for you? Old friends, a fire, some roots, fruit, worms, and insects. You are a throwback. You're not concerned with today's fashions and trends. You're not concerned with anything about today. You're almost prehistoric in your interests and behavior patterns. You probably want to marry another Armadillo, but a Possum is another somewhat mating possibility. Not every mole hill has to be a mountain.

  Passion

“Passion” by Yoko Kanno, from Kingdom Hearts 2

According to Dictionary.com, the word “passion” has the following meanings…

passion  –noun
1. any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling, as love or hate.
2. strong amorous feeling or desire; love; ardor.
3. strong sexual desire; lust.
4. an instance or experience of strong love or sexual desire.
5. a person toward whom one feels strong love or sexual desire.
6. a strong or extravagant fondness, enthusiasm, or desire for anything: a passion for music.
7. the object of such a fondness or desire: Accuracy became a passion with him.
8. an outburst of strong emotion or feeling: He suddenly broke into a passion of bitter words.
9. violent anger.
10. the state of being acted upon or affected by something external, esp. something alien to one's nature or one's customary behavior (contrasted with ACTION).

11. (often initial capital letter ) Theology.
a. the sufferings of Christ on the cross or His sufferings subsequent to the Last Supper.
b. the narrative of Christ's sufferings as recorded in the Gospels.

12. Archaic. the sufferings of a martyr.

Lately there seems to be the passion missing from my life. Not sure why. I know part of it was when my friend died and the dredging of long hidden feelings from him and from someone seven years ago. Perhaps part of it is from the need to show a strong exterior to the rest of the world and be the strong one for others, while inside the dark waters riled against rocks and threatened to drown. I have appreciated my friends for being there on the emotional level, but that has not seemed enough for me. The late nights are filled with visions and dark thoughts; sleep has not existed for a lingering amount of time. I can feel myself slowly unraveling from the inside out, and it is only a matter of time that I finally collapse.

Staring at the sunrise Saturday morning, listening to the waves crash on the rocks around me did not do as much to calm as I thought. The nights of drinking to numb the pain have helped, but only to a degree. Why am I affected this much? I am not sure. I just know that I am not recovering from anything as well as I should.

To steal lines from Aly & AJ….

“… feel out of my element
Like I'm drifting out to the sea
Like the tides pullin' me in deeper
Makin' it harder to breathe…”

One day time will pause and the world will stand still. Will I then be able to pause and see what has been done with my life? I hope so and hope that I will be able to look back and be proud of all that I have lived in the last nine years.

Take the words of Buddha into heart:
Since the happiness, pleasure, and friends you gather in this life last only for a moment, put them all behind you.

A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What a man can be, he must be. ~ Abraham Maslow (1908-1970) American Psychologist

  Movie Friday...
Beerfest (R); Wide release
When American brothers Todd and Jan Wolfhouse travel to Germany to spread their grandfather's ashes at Oktoberfest, they stumble upon a super-secret, centuries old, underground beer games competition--Beerfest, the secret Olympics of beer drinking. The brothers receive a less than warm welcome from their German cousins, the Von Wolfhausens, who humiliate Todd and Jan, slander their relatives, and worst of all, drink them under the table. Vowing to return in a year to defend their country and their family's honor, the Wolfhouse boys assemble a ragtag dream team of beer drinkers and gamers: Barry Badrinath, the consummate skills player with a dark past; Phil Krundle (aka Landfill), a one-man chugging machine; and Charlie Fink Finklestein, the lab tech with a PhD in 'All Things Beer'. With the inspiration of their Great Gam Gam and the support of her caretaker, Cherry, this Magnificent Five train relentlessly, using their hearts, minds and livers to drink faster, smarter and harder than they ever have before.

Starring: Paul Soter, Erik Stolhanske, Steve Lemme, Kevin Heffernan, Jay Chandrasekhar

How to Eat Fried Worms (PG); Wide release
Mitch Forrester and his wife Helen have packed their boys into the family station wagon and are heading to a new town with a new job for Mitch and a new elementary school for their son Billy. It seems to Billy that everybody else, including his little brother Woody, easily adapts to the new surroundings. Billy's fears are realized in his first moments at the new school when the old adage ‘everybody picks on the new kid' appears to be true. Everybody except the tall, lanky girl named Erika Tanzy whose kindness simultaneously inspires gratefulness and humiliation in Billy. When the school bully Joe and his band of 5th grade followers put worms in Billy's lunch, Billy surprises them all when he stands up to and embarrasses Joe. This leads the two to make a bet: on Saturday Billy must eat 10 worms by 7PM. When his parents leave Woody in his care, Billy presses Erika into service to help keep an eye on Woody and to lend him some moral support in his gastronomic challenge. Joe's gang makes each worm more delightfully revolting than the last, beginning with La Big Porker, which is fried in pig fat. This odyssey through worm cuisine takes the boys all over town as they try to force Billy to throw up by dubbing each specimen increasingly disgusting names like The Burning Fireball, The Greasy Brown Toad Bloater Special, and The Barfmallow. When the adventure finally ends up down by the river for worms such as The Green Slusher and Radioactive Slime Delight, all of the kids learn the true meaning of friendship and bravery, as well as the difficulties and importance of doing the right thing.

Starring: Thomas Cavanagh, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Luke Benward, Philip Bolden, Nick Krause

Idlewild (R); Wide release
In the 1930s American South, there was one spot that served as a haven. All were welcome to come and find the Lord as they walked into church on Sunday mornings. When the good and righteous built these houses of worship, however, they did ask guests to leave a few things at the door, namely: cussing, liquor, fast women, gambling and guns. And that was the part of the sermon to which Rooster just didn't pay attention. Welcome to Idlewild, Georgia. Welcome to Church. Players gather nightly at the Church, with childhood friends--who grew up on opposite sides of the tracks--Rooster and Percival playing two key roles at the club. Soft-spoken and reserved mortician Percival sees playing piano at the nightclub as welcome respite from the doldrums of working in his overbearing father's funeral home. One night in Church, Percival meets the latest celebrity to tour the South, the ethereal Angel. Percival falls head over heels in love with the ingénue and is faced with a choice: stay or leave his oppressive father behind and pursue his dreams of becoming a song-and-dance man in the big cities of which he's only dreamed. Church's manager, Rooster, is the son of a moonshine runner, a man who has grown into his flashy clothes and role as a wheeler-dealer--juggling both his suspicious wife, Zora, and a cast of characters who make their money off the place's illegal dealings. But Rooster's problems multiply after he witnesses a shooting that places Trumpy--one of the mob men--into control of the influx of liquor into his juke joint. While on the run from the mob, the good-hearted scoundrel realizes his life of petty crime is taking him nowhere and must now fight his way back to his family while his best friend Percy tries to escape the hold Idlewild has on him--and start a new life performing in a faraway city.

Starring: Andre Benjamin, Paula Patton, Antwan 'Big Boi' Patton, Paula Jai Parker, Ving Rhames

Invincible (PG); Wide release
A sports drama inspired by a true story about a man who had nothing to lose, and pushed to make his dreams come true. When the coach of Vince Papale's beloved hometown football team hosted an unprecedented open tryout, the public consensus was that it was a waste of time--no one good enough to play professional football was going to be found this way. Certainly no one like Papale--a down-on-his-luck, 30-year-old, substitute teacher and part-time bartender who never even played college football. But against these odds, Papale made the team and soon found himself living every fan's fantasy--moving from his cheap seats in the upper deck to standing on the field as a professional football player.

Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Greg Kinnear, Elizabeth Banks, Kirk Acevedo, Lola Glaudini

  Will Teachey...
As many people know, a really good friend/ex of mine passed away on Tuesday, Will Teachey. The last couple of days have been pretty rough getting through and finding distractions to try to keep my mind off of things. All of Will’s friends, family and other loved ones have been pulling together to get through this hard time…we were all blessed to have been able to have him in our lives, for however long it might have been.

The video attached is only a small portion of how open and different Will was from many other people. He was not afraid of anything, and always spoke his mind. And he always made sure the people around him were laughing.

We will all remember Will with a smile on his face and a finger in the air…

Miss you, bud.

Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are... Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. One day I shall dig my nails into the earth, or bury my face in my pillow, or stretch myself taut, or raise my hands to the sky and want, more than all the world, your return.

  The passing of a friend
Today is a day of somber news. Earlier this afternoon, a dear friend, passed away.

William Teachey was one of the best kids I knew and had the pleasure of dating. His death is going to affect many across Wilmington, and even back home in Clinton.

We love you, Will, and you will always be in our thoughts.

  Some much needed humour

  A good friend, Will....
(From Saturday, August 19th)
Hey Guys,
For those of you that don’t know one of my best friends and my roommate Will Teachey is in critical condition in ICU at New Hanover Hospital here in Wilmington. Please Keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers and hopefully he’s gonna pull though!! God Bless
Chris

(Today)
Talked with Chris/Savannah last night, and am waiting for Will's mom to call me back.

Right now Will is hanging in there, but still not doing too well. They are supposed to run some tests on Tuesday and the results from that will determine what will happen next. Fortunately it was not an OD like originally thought, but it still sucks either way.

I know the family, Chris, and a few of the rest of us do appreciate everything that everyone is trying to do right now to help out.

Right now, Will is in the Coronary Care Unit and his mother has asked that visitations be limited to her and her husband for the moment. All inquiries at the hospital have also been routed through her as well, so as soon as more info is available, we will get it out to you.

Hugs and love to everyone who has been affected by this turn of events.

Aiden/Ian

Okay, so it is Friday, I am actually in somewhat of a good mood for a morning where I was running so far behind that I wore my flip flops to work instead of my sneakers (they are on the floor beside me for later...) and I am bored out of my mind.   This week's movie releases...
Accepted (PG-13); Wide release
High school senior Bartleby B Gaines is on his way to scoring eight out of eight rejection letters from colleges--which isn't going to go over big with Mom and Dad. At least he's not alone in the exclusion. Several of his crew of outcast friends are in the same, college-less boat. So, how does a guy facing a bleak career please his parents, and get noticed by dream girl Monica? Simple: open his own university. B and his band of misfit freshmen take liberal arts literally when they fool their parents and peers and create the esteemed South Harmon Institute of Technology. Just as they are settling in, B and company realize they've done their jobs too well. Dozens of other college rejects show up for classes at this less-than-lofty institute. Under the scornful eyes of the privileged students from the neighboring college, B and his friends forge ahead with maintaining a fake, functioning university. With his future in the balance, it's going to take more than just sleight of hand to keep B out of jail as he strives to get the girl, impress his parents and just become 'accepted'.

They could, of course, take the easy way out and listen to the board of directors who want to sell the company to their biggest competitor, but that would forever taint the name of their late father, who built it from the ground up. Instead, Ava and Tanzie decide to protect what is rightfully theirs. What it's going to take to do that will require them to do some things they've never really considered--growing up, taking initiative and responsibility, and asking for help from others, rather than expecting it to fall into their laps.   Finally...a quick update....
I know that those of you who have been fortunate enough to catch me on a regular basis have heard about my recent problems. I would like to say that I am doing a bit better, although still not sleeping right (like that will change any time soon) and my knees are still screwed up (no on-your-knees comments, please). But I think I have managed to recover somewhat from the rest of it.

The issues with the parental farm have eased too…of course it probably helps that we are not talking anymore right now either. It ended up being a mutual decision…I didn’t need to be any more stressed than I have been as of late…and I really need to finish this pack of cigs so that I can stop smoking once again. But that started from a whole ‘nother issue. Back to the parents. I had a pretty bad fight with my mother and was accused of several nasty things in regards to the relationship, so I told her that it was not working right now and maybe I would let her know when would be fine. She did not see how she could be the cause of a lot of stress (I would not wonder when we fight nearly every time we talk), accused me of only wanting them for the vehicle factor, and stated that I was reverting back to an age range of 7 to 17. The last one pissed me off pretty badly because it meant that my shrink from a few years back was divulging more info than he was allowed, and also because my mom could not see how childish she was being with half of it. She kept yelling and getting attitude with me. I know that I have attitude sometimes, but I do try to keep it somewhat in check. A lot more of it is smartassedness and the dry sense of humour. Anyway, I told her that if she kept yelling at me I was not going to listen…everyone knows that I don’t respond very well to that and won’t talk to anyone for awhile if they have done that to me. I tried to make a point to her, that failed and I resorted to something I don’t particularly like doing…but it shot across to her. So, now, we have agreed to not talk, and my life has been a bit calmer for that. The rest of the drama is the making of someone else, but I am not going into that right now.

Which brings me to another part. I have recently been accused of not being open-minded in some aspects by cutting people out that have been causing drama of one sort or another with me or my friends. I know that drama is a part of life….but I also know that I can limit how much interaction I have with it. Especially when it is people who admitted to the fact that are very dramatic and create it for the hell of it sometimes. Sorry…I deal enough with that at my job. I don’t want to come home to it as well. My life has actually been better for slicing people out, and figuring out those who really want to be friends, and those who are around to just get some dirt…or use me for other means. I don’t like or appreciate it. So, please accept my apologies if the relationship dynamics have changed lately with anyone…I am doing what I should have done a long time ago and am taking time for myself and my own improvement. Doesn’t mean that I care for anyone any less…just don’t need the bullshit.

So…if anyone knows of a good agency that knows how to break some red tape in finding the birth parental units, please let me know. And, if anyone knows of any decent jobs out there too that my closest friends won’t give me hell about (I have considered the photos shoots again and more), please let me know too.

Catch ya later…and you know how to reach me if you really want to!!

  Final quote before the weekend...
Whether you be man or woman you will never do anything in this world without courage. It is the greatest quality of the mind next to honor.
-- James Lane Allen (1849-1925) American Author

  My dad is a Father...
A little boy got on the bus, sat next to a man reading a book, and noticed he had his collar on backwards.

The little boy asked why he wore his collar that way.

The man, who was a priest, said, "I am a Father."

The little boy replied, "My Daddy doesn't wear his collar like that."

The priest looked up from his book and answered, "I am the Father of many."

The boy said, "My Dad has four boys, four girls and two grandchildren and he doesn't wear his collar that way."

The priest, getting impatient, said, "I am the Father of hundreds and went back to reading his book.

The little boy sat quietly thinking for a while, then leaned over and said, "Maybe you should wear your pants backwards instead of your collar."

Will Jimeno, an officer with the Port Authority Police Department, was tempted to take a personal day to enjoy his hobby of bow hunting, but ultimately decided that he would go to work. Sergeant John McLoughlin, a respected veteran of the PAPD, had been up for hours--a requirement of his daily, 1 ½ hour trek to the city. They and their colleagues made their way to midtown Manhattan, just like they did any other day. Only this wasn't any other day. A team of PAPD first responders drove from mid-town Manhattan to the World Trade Center. Five men, including McLoughlin and Jimeno, went into the buildings and were trapped when the towers collapsed. Miraculously, McLoughlin and Jimeno survived, but were buried and pinned beneath slabs of concrete and twisted metal, 20 feet below the rubble field. Though they couldn't see each other, each could hear that the other had survived, and for the next 12 hours, McLoughlin and Jimeno kept each other alive--talking about their families, their lives on the force, their hopes, their disappointments.

A WEST TEXAS COWBOY WALKED INTO A DRUG STORE AND ASKED TO TALK TO A MALE PHARMACIST. THE WOMAN HE WAS TALKING TO SAID THAT SHE WAS THE PHARMACIST AND AS SHE AND HER SISTER OWNED THE STORE, THERE WERE NO MALES EMPLOYED THERE. SHE THEN ASKED IF SHE COULD HELP THE GENTLEMAN.

THE COWBOY SAID THAT IT WAS SOMETHING THAT HE WOULD BE MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE DISCUSSING WITH A MALE PHARMACIST. THE FEMALE PHARMACIST ASSURED HIM THAT SHE WAS COMPLETELY PROFESSIONAL AND WHATEVER IT WAS THAT HE NEEDED TO DISCUSS, HE COULD BE CONFIDENT THAT SHE WOULD TREAT HIM WITH THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF PROFESSIONALISM.

THE YOUNG BRONC-BUSTER AGREED AND BEGAN BY SAYING, "THIS IS TOUGH FOR ME TO DISCUSS, BUT I HAVE A PERMANENT ERECTION. IT CAUSES ME A LOT OF PROBLEMS AND SEVERE EMBARRASSMENT, AND I WAS WONDERING WHAT YOU COULD GIVE ME FOR IT."

THE PHARMACIST SAID, "JUST A MINUTE, I'LL GO TALK TO MY SISTER."

WHEN SHE RETURNED, SHE SAID, "WE DISCUSSED IT AT LENGTH AND THE ABSOLUTE BEST WE CAN DO IS, 1/3 OWNERSHIP IN THE STORE, A COMPANY PICK-UP TRUCK, AND $3,000 A MONTH LIVING EXPENSES."

While she was "flying" down the road yesterday (10 miles over the limit), a woman passed over a bridge only to find a cop with a radar gun on the other side lying in wait. The cop pulled her over, walked up to the car, and with that classic patronizing smirk we all know and love, asked, "What's your hurry?"

To which she replied, "I'm late for work."

"Oh yeah," said the cop, "what do you do?"

"I'm a rectum stretcher," she responded.

The cop stammered, "A what? A rectum stretcher? And just what does a rectum stretcher do?"

"Well," she said, "I start by inserting one finger, then work my way up to two fingers, then three, then four, then with my whole hand in. I work from side to side until I can get both hands in, and then I slowly but surely stretch, until it's about 6 feet wide."

"And just what the hell do you do with a 6 foot asshole?" he asked.

"You give him a radar gun and park him behind a bridge..."

  Dear Alcohol
Dear Alcohol,

First & foremost, let me tell you that Im a huge fan of yours. As my friend, you always seem to be there when needed. The perfect post-work cocktail, a beer at the game, and youre even around in the holidays, hidden inside chocolates as you warm us when were stuck in the midst of endless family gatherings. However, lately Ive been wondering about your intentions.
While I want to believe that you have my best interests at heart, I feel that your influence has led to some unwise consequences:

1. Phone calls: While I agree with you that communication is important, I question the suggestion that any conversation of substance or necessity takes place after 2 a.m. Why would you make me call those ex-boyfriends/girlfriends when I know for a fact they do not want to hear from me during the day, let alone all hours of the night?

2. Eating: Now, you know I love a good meal, but why do you suggest that I eat a taco with chili sauce, along with a big Italian meatball and some stale chips (washed down with WINE & topped off with a Kit Kat after a few cheese curls & chili cheese fries)? Im an eclectic eater, but I think you went too far this time.

3. Clumsiness: Unless youre subtly trying to tell me that I need to do more yoga to improve my balance, I see NO need to hammer the issue home by causing me to fall down. Its completely unnecessary, and the black & blue marks that appear on my body mysteriously the next day are beyond me.
Similarly, it should never take me more than 45 seconds to get the front door key into the lock.

4. Furthermore: The hangovers have GOT to stop. This is getting
ridiculous. I know a little penance for our previous evenings debauchery may be in order, but the 3pm hangover immobility is completely unacceptable. My entire day is shot. I ask that, if the proper precautions are taken (water, vitamin B, bread products, aspirin) prior to going to sleep/passing out face down on the kitchen floor with a bag of popcorn, the hangover should be minimal & in no way interfere with my daily activities.

5. The hook-up. Need I say more?

Alcohol, I have enjoyed our friendship for some years now & would like to ensure that we remain on good terms. Youve been the invoker of great stories, the provocation for much laughter, and the needed companion when I just dont know what to do with the extra money in my pockets. In order to continue this friendship, I ask that you carefully review my grievances
above & address them immediately. I will look for an answer no later than Thursday 3pm (pre-happy hour) on your possible solutions & hopefully we can continue this fruitful partnership.

Thank you,
Your biggest fan

Randomness...the true order of the world.

Travel the world in one day, rest your legs beside the sea; hope the people that you meet, will friends forever be. Okay..so that was a little random. But so is life. You never know when all the luck is going your way, or if the rabbit's foot is going to turn bad. I haven't been around the world, except in my reading and movies. I stay outta politics, prefering to be neutral territory. Friends who are in trouble come to see me; when I get into trouble, I stay retreated into secrecy. But I make time for all of it. I believe strongly in being yourself...that is the only way that you will truly be happy. Do what is right for you, you can only live life once. Don't get lost in the depths of my mind....
